Driver indicted in Alexandria crash that killed 62-year-old pedestrian
A Virginia driver has been indicted in connection with a deadly pedestrian crash that left a 62-year-old Alexandria resident dead earlier this year. The crash happened around 5:30 p.m. on April 20 at the intersection of North Saint Asaph Street and Montgomery Street. According to the Alexandria Police Department, officers responded to reports of a vehicle striking a pedestrian. RELATED | Pedestrian killed in Alexandria crash The victim, identified as Norma Floyd-Sayles, 62, was pronounced dead at the scene by Alexandria Fire Department medics. Following an investigation by the department's Crash Reconstruction Team, the case was presented to the Alexandria Commonwealth's Attorney's Office. On July 15, an Alexandria grand jury indicted Tekaligne Shirko, 46, of Lorton, on charges of failure to yield to a pedestrian causing death and involuntary manslaughter. Police said Shirko surrendered and is being processed through the Alexandria Adult Detention Center. A court date has not yet been scheduled. Because the case is an active criminal prosecution, police said no further details will be released.
