Driver in fatal Logan Street crash arrested, charged
A woman has been arrested and charged with the death of 19-year-old Ayanna Wilbanks, following a fatal crash on Logan Street. On Thursday, police responded to reports that a car had crashed into a building in the 700 block of Logan Street. The crash took the life of Ayanna Wilbanks, who was riding in the front passenger seat at the time of the crash. Another passenger and the driver were taken to the hospital to be treated for injuries that police describe as non-life-threatening. Saturday morning, the driver, 23-year-old Dasharay Ben'e, was arrested. She has been charged with vehicular homicide while under the influence of alcohol, first-degree wanton endangerment, first-degree criminal mischief, failure to maintain insurance, and DUI. Court documents state that Ben'e admitted to having one margarita before the crash. The documents also state that her blood alcohol content was .168 when it was taken at the hospital. Ben'e will be in court for arraignment on Saturday.
