Driver in custody after plowing into Vallarta Supermarket in Burbank

A man was taken into custody after driving through the double-paned glass doors of a Burbank grocery store, through a floristry display and down several aisles before crashing toward the back of the store, police confirmed to KTLA. The incident, according to the Burbank Police Department, happened around 9:45 p.m. at the Vallarta Supermarket at 10950 Sherman Way, near the Hollywood Burbank Airport. Details are limited and it remains unclear exactly how the incident occurred, but officials believe alcohol and or drugs may have been a factor in the crash. Footage posted to Citizen showed a massive police response at the supermarket as the suspect was wheeled out on a gurney and placed into a police cruiser. While medical personnel also responded to the scene, it’s unclear how many people were inside the store at the time. Officials said no injuries had been reported. The front entrance of the Vallarta sustained visible damage, along with the displays just inside the doors. The extent of the damage inside the store remains unknown. Officials with the Burbank Police Department told KTLA it is unclear whether the building itself sustained any serious structural damage. No additional details have been released.
