Driver flown to hospital after crash forces car into cable barricade near Cedar City
A driver was flown to a local area hospital after their car flipped over a cable barricade in a three-vehicle crash on Interstate 15 near Cedar City. The crash was first reported just after 8:20 a.m. on Friday. Lt. Zach Randall said traffic was slowing down in the northbound lanes near mile marker 54 - about three miles south of Cedar City - when a pick-up truck failed to slow in time. Lt. Randall said the collision resulted in one car hitting the cable barrier and flipping over. The condition of the driver who was life-flighted was not made immediately available. Utah Highway Patrol did not report any other injuries for the other individuals involved in the crash. Traffic on northbound I-15 was diverted off the freeway at mile marker 51 in Hamilton Fort and onto Old Highway 91. Utah Highway Patrol estimated I-15 would reopen by 10:30 a.m., after crews have cleared the scene. The Utah Department of Transportation said drivers should expect heavy delays in the area, including residual delays after the northbound lanes reopen. _____
