Driver facing felony charges in Garner now-deadly DWI crash on Jones Sausage Road, police said

GARNER, N.C. (WNCN) — Garner police said Wednesday that a passenger had died from a single-vehicle crash late last week, and the driver charged with DWI is facing new felonies. The single-SUV wreck was reported just before 10:25 p.m. Friday along Jones Sausage Road near the Amazon Fulfillment Center, located in the 4800 block of Jones Sausage Road, according to a Garner Police Department news release. Four people in the SUV were transported to WakeMed Raleigh for treatment after the March 6 wreck, police said. At the time of the crash, two people were in critical condition, while two others suffered injuries that were not life-threatening, according to Garner police. Since the initial crash, one of the two in critical condition has died, police said. The driver of the vehicle, Alberto Urieta-Calixto Jr., 20, of Garner, was initially cited for DWI and consumption of alcohol under the age of 21, police said. After further investigation and the one passenger's death, police said Urieta-Calixto was arrested on Wednesday and charged with felony death by motor vehicle and felony serious injury by motor vehicle. He was transported to the Wake County Detention Center for processing. "The investigation into the crash remains ongoing," police said. Officers said additional information will be released as it becomes available.
