Driver faces $2M bond, multiple charges after crash kills two teens in Montcalm County

A man is facing multiple charges after a four-car crash in Montcalm County killed two teenagers and injured a woman. Michigan State Police say the crash happened just after 11 p.m. Thursday on M-46 near Derby Road, about a mile southeast of Six Lakes, Mich. A preliminary investigation suggests a 49-year-old Grandville man, identified by the Montcalm County Sheriff's Office Monday as Brian Nowicki, was driving west when he rear-ended a Chevrolet Cruze carrying two 17-year-olds. Both teens died from their injuries. The eastbound cars were driven by a Saginaw husband and wife who were traveling separately as they heading home. The woman driving the Traverse was taken to the hospital for treatment, according to state police. Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash. These include the following: Two counts of operating while intoxicated causing death Operating while intoxicated causing serious injury Two counts of operating - License suspended, revoked, denied causing death Operating - License suspended, revoked, denied causing serious injury Three counts of police officer - assaulting/resisting/obstructing Alcohol - open container in a vehicle Bond was set at $2 million, according to the sheriff's office. Nowicki is scheduled to return to court for a probable cause conference July 1, and a preliminary examination July 7.
