Driver dies in crash on Route 32 after fleeing attempted traffic stop: officials

A fatal accident closed a section of Route 32 in Howard County early Saturday morning after a driver fled from a traffic stop and crashed on a nearby ramp, as reported by state investigators. The Maryland Attorney General's Independent Investigations Division (IID) is currently looking into the incident that took place near Broken Land Parkway. At around 1:52 a.m., an officer tried to stop a 2010 Honda Accord in an unmarked Howard County Police Department vehicle. The driver did not stop and crashed shortly after on the eastbound ramp to Broken Land Parkway, resulting in a fatality. The driver, who was alone in the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have not disclosed the driver's identity or the reason for the traffic stop. The eastbound ramp to Broken Land Parkway remains closed while the investigation continues. The Independent Investigations Division is leading the investigation, and any further updates will be provided by them. Please direct any media inquiries to the IID.
