Driver charged in fatal New Year's Eve collision at Riverdale fuel station

A man has been arrested in connection with a tragic incident that occurred on New Year's Eve at a gas station in Riverdale, Illinois. Reports indicate that a white Kia struck and fatally injured a woman, Harriet Reynolds, while she was walking through the parking lot on East 146th Street. The driver of the vehicle allegedly moved Reynolds after the collision and falsely claimed to authorities that he was not involved before leaving the scene. Through witness interviews and surveillance footage, Barry Lewis was identified as the driver responsible for the accident. Despite attempts to locate him, Lewis was eventually brought in by his attorney on Jan. 5 and has since been charged with obstruction of justice, driving on a revoked license, and causing death. He is set to appear in court for a bond hearing. Reynolds' daughter Consuela Vernor has emphasized the need for safety improvements in the area, highlighting concerns about speeding vehicles jeopardizing pedestrians. The Riverdale Police Department is continuing its investigation and urges anyone with relevant information to contact them at 708-841-2203.
