DPS: Failure to stop at sign leads to fatal Midland County crash
MIDLAND, Texas (KMID/KPEJ)- A two-vehicle crash in Midland County early Thursday morning left one man dead and another seriously injured, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety. Officials say the crash happened around 5:30 a.m. June 4 at the intersection of South County Road 1160 and East County Road 173. Preliminary investigation found that a 2008 GMC Canyon was traveling east on County Road 173 while a 2022 Ford F-550 towing a trailer was traveling south on County Road 1160, and that the driver of the GMC Canyon failed to stop at a stop sign and entered the intersection, colliding with the Ford truck. The driver of the GMC, identified as Jose Luis Rodriguez, 57, of Channelview, was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Ford, identified as Johnny Baltazar, 54, of Midland, was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. DPS said he suffered serious injuries and was transported to Midland Memorial Hospital for treatment. The crash remains under investigation, and no further details are available at this time.
