Docs: Police pursuit results in truck running into store sign on near east side, death of passenger

INDIANAPOLIS -- An Indianapolis man has been taken into custody after a police pursuit led to a fatal crash on the near east side of Indianapolis earlier this month. According to court documents, Corion Foster was charged in Marion County with: At around 12:30 a.m. on May 8, the court documents stated that an officer with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department saw a pickup truck traveling at a high speed and ignoring multiple stop signs. The court documents stated that the driver of the truck, who police allege was Foster, reportedly was driving at least 50-60 mph in a 25mph zone. The officer reportedly attempted to pull the truck over, leading Foster to turn off his headlights and go through a stop sign on East New York Street. Previous reports indicate that at one point, the officer lost sight of the truck, but eventually saw that it had crashed in the 1600 block of East Washington Street. The documents state that the truck had collided with the sign of a nearby store. When the officer approached the crash on foot, the documents said that Foster appeared to "fall or roll from the area of the driver's seat" and was found unconscious lying on the ground. Foster was taken to a local hospital in critical condition. The passenger of the vehicle, Lesley Yarrell III, was found to be trapped in the car and was pronounced dead at the scene, the documents said. The court documents said that an investigation into the pursuit found that Foster's truck reportedly traveled the wrong direction on a street, ran multiple stop signs and struck a vehicle, along with multiple construction barrels. One second before the crash, the truck was found to be traveling 86 mph on East Washington Street, a road where the posted speed limit is 35 mph. Officials said that Foster was found to have two warrants for his arrest, including one from Madison County and another for domestic battery with a prior. Foster's license was also suspended after he was convicted of driving without a valid license. Foster's initial hearing is scheduled for Tuesday morning in Marion County.
