Motorcyclist killed in suspected DUI crash in southeast Las Vegas valley
LAS VEGAS (KLAS) -- A motorcyclist is dead after an early morning suspected DUI crash in the southeast Las Vegas valley, according to Metro police. Around 1:45 a.m., Metro police responded to a report of a crash involving a motorcycle and an SUV in the area of Spencer Street and Serene Avenue. Evidence at the scene and witness statements showed that the motorcycle was traveling northbound on Spencer Street and entered the intersection with Serene Avenue at the same time a Volkswagen Tiguan made a left turn from eastbound Serene Avenue against a red turn arrow signal, police said. The crash occurred when the Volkswagen crossed paths with the motorcycle, causing major damage to both vehicles, according to police. The motorcyclist, identified as a 23-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The driver of the Volkswagen, identified as 57-year-old Danny Simpkins, was arrested on DUI-related charges. All lanes on eastbound Serene Avenue at Spencer Street were closed as police conducted their investigation. This marks the 64th traffic-related fatality in LVMPD's jurisdiction for 2026.
