Derby man charged with manslaughter following 2025 Shelton crash that fatally injured 14-year-old.
A man from Derby surrendered to police on Friday morning in connection to a fatal crash on Route 8 in Shelton that claimed the life of a 14-year-old girl. State police have charged 39-year-old Carlos Beamonte with multiple offenses. Beamonte's 2013 Honda CR-V was reportedly traveling north on Route 8 on January 12, 2025, when it collided with a 1992 Honda Civic Del Sol, causing it to veer across the median and into oncoming traffic, resulting in a tragic accident that took the life of Chloe Alyssa Ramsubhag. Two others were injured in the crash. Following the collision, Beamonte fled the scene before contacting his sister for help. His sister, a former Bethel Police Department officer, then contacted a police sergeant for advice. It was revealed that both Beamonte and his sister delayed reporting the crash to authorities. Investigations showed that Beamonte had been drinking prior to the incident, with surveillance footage indicating he had consumed numerous alcoholic beverages. Moreover, it was found that Beamonte was driving at speeds far exceeding the posted limit at the time of the crash, which occurred under reasonable road conditions.
