Deputies: 2 MDOT workers hit by car, killed
ALAIEDON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Two construction workers were hit by a car and killed Tuesday in the Mason area, deputies say. It happened around 1:20 p.m. on northbound US-127 near Holt Road. According to the Ingham County Sheriff's Office, a driver lost control and hit two Michigan Department of Transportation workers: a 49-year-old man and a 51-year-old man, both from Mason. The two workers died on scene, deputies said. Their names were not immediately released. The driver — identified as a 24-year-old man from DeWitt — was taken to the hospital, where he was listed in critical condition as of Tuesday night, according to the sheriff's office. Investigators believe speed may have played a role in the crash, but they noted that "a thorough investigation ... will take time." Northbound US-127 was shut down for hours after the crash.
