Deadly Crash Could Have Been Avoided

Residents in Hamilton's Lindenwald neighborhood are continuing to advocate for solutions to road safety issues after a tragic accident claimed the lives of three individuals in December. In response to concerns raised by the community, city and neighborhood officials have arranged a meeting, tentatively scheduled for January, to address these issues. The fatal crash on River Road resulted in the loss of 35-year-old Milton Alvarez Lagos, 27-year-old Bety Salazar Lopez, and 10-year-old Milton Salazar Alvarez. Lindenwald resident Lauren Hall, who has been in contact with the victims' family, emphasized the preventable nature of the incident and highlighted the importance of taking action to prevent such tragedies. The neighborhood routinely experiences speeding and traffic incidents, prompting calls for increased safety measures. Hamilton police have recorded 24 crashes along a 2.5-mile stretch of River Road in the past two years, leading to heightened enforcement efforts, including 400 car stops, with a quarter resulting in speeding tickets issued. Law enforcement officials are also exploring the possibility of pursuing criminal charges in connection with the recent fatal crash.
