Established in 2023 under former President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, the Interoceanic Train is part of a broader effort to enhance rail transportation in southern Mexico and develop infrastructure in the isthmus of Tehuantepec, aiming to create a vital trade corridor linking the two oceans. The train service extends from the port of Salina Cruz to Coatzacoalcos, covering approximately 180 miles.
