Data from Brown County shows 42% drop in traffic fatalities

The Brown County officials are pleased with the significant decrease in traffic fatalities in 2025 compared to the previous year. According to the official law enforcement report, there were 11 traffic-related deaths in 10 separate incidents in 2025, marking a 42.1% drop from the 19 fatalities in 16 crashes in 2024. Although this decline is positive news, the Traffic Safety Commission emphasizes the importance of remaining cautious on the roads. Brown County Sheriff's Office Captain John Rousseau expressed relief that fewer families experienced the loss of a loved one in the past year but stressed the ultimate goal of zero deaths on the roads. Preliminary data indicates that the state of Wisconsin also saw a decrease in traffic fatalities from 576 in 2024 to 536 in 2025, representing a 6.9% reduction. The commission further advises the public to prioritize safety measures such as wearing seat belts, as many victims were found not buckled, and to avoid impaired and speeding driving. It is stated that the crash data for 2025 will not be finalized until later in 2026. More detailed statistics from the Brown County Traffic Safety Commission can be found in the tables below.
