Danbury 18-year-old killed in Newtown motorcycle crash, police say
NEWTOWN — The motorcyclist who died in a crash involving a truck on Hawleyville Road in Newtown on Monday evening was an 18-year-old Danbury resident, according to police. The Newtown Police Department identified the motorcyclist as Christopher Guallpa-Lema. Newtown police Lt. Scott Smith said officers were called to Hawleyville Road in the area of North Ridge Drive at around 5:50 p.m. for the reported crash. The initial investigation found that Guallpa-Lema was operating a black Kawasaki motorcycle north on Hawleyville Road when he “struck the rear of a FedEx delivery truck,” according to Smith. Guallpa-Lema was pronounced dead at the scene, Smith said. Officers spoke to multiple witnesses and the FedEx driver at the scene, according to Smith. Hawleyville Road remained closed until around 10 p.m. while officers investigated. Smith said the case remains under investigation by the detective bureau and the accident reconstruction team.
