Crash involving MDOT trucks snarls traffic on US-131 near Wayland

LEIGHTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A crash involving at least two Michigan Department of Transportation vehicles snarled traffic on a stretch of US-131 north of Wayland Wednesday. The crash happened around 10 a.m. in the northbound lanes at 140th Avenue in Leighton Township. A News 8 crew reported traffic was backed up for miles as the right lane was closed. All lanes reopened shortly before noon. Michigan State Police said the crash resulted in minor injuries, but did not provide details about how many people were injured. The circumstances of the crash have not yet been released, but the News 8 crew saw an MDOT pickup truck with damage to the driver's side on a wrecker truck. Photos from MSP showed damage to the rear driver's side of an MDOT dump truck on the right shoulder. The state police photos also showed a commercial van being loaded onto a wrecker. "This is another reminder of the dangers of distracted driving and failing to #MoveOver for emergency and service vehicles with flashing lights. Keep your eyes on the road and give crews space to work safely," MSP wrote in a social media post.
