CPD squad car hit by stolen car, injuring two officers
Two Chicago police officers were seriously injured early Monday when their patrol car was hit by a stolen vehicle on the North Side of the city. The incident took place around 2:56 a.m. near 3600 N. Racine Ave. A stolen Hyundai Elantra failed to stop at a sign and crashed into the police vehicle at an intersection. The impact caused the Elantra to also hit three parked cars, while the patrol car was pushed onto the sidewalk and hit a tree. Both officers were hospitalized with serious injuries. The 18-year-old driver of the Elantra, who was in critical condition, was taken into custody after being treated at Illinois Masonic Hospital. No one else was injured in the accident. Charges and citations are pending, and the Major Accident Investigation Unit is handling the case.
