Coroner ID’s woman dead after hit-and-run crash in south Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- The Kern County Coroner's Office identified a woman who was struck in a hit-and-run crash in south Bakersfield on Saturday. The woman was identified as Lalita Marie Young, 49, of Bakersfield. Pedro Contreras, 42, was arrested for charges related to vehicular manslaughter and hit-and-run causing death, according to the Bakersfield Police Department. Police said the crash occurred at about 9:50 p.m. in the 200 block of Belle Terrace. When officers arrived on scene, they determined the woman, later identified as Young, was on the south shoulder of the roadway and was struck by a vehicle traveling eastbound. Witnesses said the vehicle involved was a dark sedan. Bakersfield police believe speed and impairment were factors in the collision.
