Coinjock man hospitalized after single-vehicle collision

CURRITUCK COUNTY, N.C. (WAVY) -- A Coinjock man was hospitalized with serious injuries Saturday morning following a single-vehicle collision in Currituck County. The North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to the incident on Waterlily Road around 9:52 a.m. Elijah Caroon, 25, was operating a rollback wrecker, when the vehicle traveled off the road and struck the tree. Caroon was airlifted by Nightingale to Norfolk General Hospital for treatment of serious but non-life-threatening injuries, according to officials. Preliminary investigation by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol indicates that Caroon crossed the center line, traveled off the roadway to the left, and struck a tree. No other vehicles were involved in this crash. Following the crash, Caroon has been charged with driving left of center and failure to wear a seatbelt.
