Charges pending for teen driver in Sturgis fatal crash
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) - Charges are pending for the driver involved in a Sunday crash on Sturgis High School grounds, according to the South Dakota Department of Public Safety. The DPS said the pickup was on a gravel road on the high school grounds when the driver lost control and the pickup slid and rolled. One teen, a 15-year-old from Spearfish, died as a result of the crash, the DPS said. The teen was one of four teens riding in the back of a pickup truck that were ejected in the crash. Three of the teens had minor injuries. The 15-year-old driver of the Chevrolet Silverado was not injured. A passenger, 15, in the cab wearing a seat belt had minor injuries. The crash happened around 8:40 p.m. Sunday. The names of the teenagers involved have not been released. The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
