Charges Filed for Fatal I-15 Wrong-Way Crash
The individual accused of driving in the wrong direction on Interstate 15 and causing a fatal collision with a car, resulting in the death of two teenagers, has been charged with multiple offenses, including two counts of Murder and Forcible Sexual Abuse. The suspect, Jose Angel Torres Jimenez, 21, was taken into custody immediately after the incident that took place in the late hours of November 29. Reportedly, Jimenez was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes on I-15 around 2100 when he collided head-on with a Nissan Rogue, leading to a devastating outcome in which two teenagers, Anneka Wilson, 17, and Leo Shepherd, 18, lost their lives. Earlier, the Salt Lake City Police Department mentioned Jimenez's alleged involvement in a sexual assault incident preceding his entry onto the highway in the wrong direction. While specific details about the pre-crash occurrence have not been disclosed, Jimenez faced charges including Aggravated Assault Resulting in Loss of Consciousness and Aggravated Assault, in addition to the Forcible Sexual Abuse offense. The community mourns the loss of the two teens due to the tragic crash. Moreover, Jimenez was also charged with a misdemeanor DUI and a violation of a learner's permit. Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill expressed concern for the victim-survivor of the alleged sexual assault, ensuring her support and resources to address the trauma. The district attorney also emphasized the pursuit of justice and accountability for the victims' loved ones and the community affected by this heartbreaking incident.
