Car reversing in shoulder caused deadly I-25 crash: CSP

DENVER (KDVR) — A car reversing in the shoulder of Interstate 25 was the cause of a deadly crash last Friday, according to a press release from the Colorado State Patrol on Monday. Investigators determined that on May 15, a Chevrolet Equinox was backing up in the right northbound shoulder of I-25 near Happy Canyon Road. An Audi A5 and a Toyota Highlander were traveling northbound in the right lane when the reversing Equinox drifted into the right lane, causing the Audi to crash into the back of it, and the Highlander to hit the Audi, CSP reported. The driver of the Equinox, a 31-year-old man from Aurora, was killed in the crash and will be identified upon notification of the next of kin. The Audi driver, a 46-year-old woman from Parker, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, and the driver of the Highlander, a 58-year-old from Castle Pines, was taken to the hospital with moderate injuries. Investigators are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash to contact CSP dispatch at 303-239-4501 and reference Case Number VC260144.
