Brightline train crashes into car; man hospitalized

A southbound Brightline train and a car were involved in a crash in Delray Beach on Friday afternoon. The driver was taken to a hospital. Top story: Pilot makes emergency landing on Indiantown Road in JupiterThe crash occurred at approximately 1:15 p.m. along Lindell Boulevard on the Florida East Coast Railway tracks, police spokesman Ted White told WPBF.Less than two hours later, service resumed in both directions, Brightline spokesman Mike Hicks told WPBF.A man, driving a white Honda, had stopped on the railroad tracks, police said.The car was struck by a Brightline train, which had departed from the West Palm Beach station and was headed to the one in Boca Raton.The man became trapped and was extricated by Delray Beach Fire Rescue. He was taken to a hospital as a trauma alert. Delray Medical Center is the closest Level 1 trauma center.South Dixie Highway was shut down south of Lindell Boulevard East, and the westbound lanes of Lindell Boulevard also were shut down. Drivers were asked to seek alternate routes.On Dec. 24, 2024, a Brightline train traveling north struck the rear of a Delray Beach Fire Rescue ladder truck near East Atlantic, which is north of Lindell. The crash injured 15 people: 12 train passengers and three firefighters. The driver-engineer, David Wyatt, was terminated in April 2025 and issued a non-criminal traffic citation.
