Bridgeport man charged with OUI after fatal crash on I-95 in Stamford
STAMFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — A Bridgeport man was arrested Sunday and charged with operating under the influence following a fatal crash on I-95 South in Stamford, state police said. In the early hours of Sunday morning, Jawora Jermain Davidson, 37, was driving a Honda Prelude on I-95 near Exit 7 when he allegedly lost control of the vehicle. The Honda veered into the right shoulder, then veered left and crossed all three travel lanes, colliding with the concrete barrier in the median. The impact caused the Honda to come to a rest in the center lane of the highway and face north, leading to a head-on collision with a Ford Transit traveling south. An unidentified passenger traveling with Davidson was pronounced dead at Stamford Hospital. The driver of the Ford reported serious injuries and was hospitalized, while Davidson did not report any injuries. Police said that at the scene, Davidson allegedly had bloodshot and watery eyes, poor coordination, was highly disoriented, was slurring his speech and had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath. Davidson did not pass a field sobriety test, according to police. Davidson was charged with operating under the influence and failure to maintain proper lane. A subsequent chemical breath test revealed a blood alcohol content twice the legal limit, police said. Davidson was held on a $250,000 bond and appeared in Stamford Superior Court on Monday.
