Bentonville police: 1 injured in vehicle vs. bicycle accident

BENTONVILLE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — The Bentonville Police Department says one person was injured in an accident on Thursday involving a bicycle and a vehicle. The department said in a news release that officers responded to a collision at the intersection of South Walton Boulevard and Southwest 8th Street around 12:53 p.m. Officials said the collision occurred in the outside northbound lane of South Walton Boulevard when a cyclist entered the roadway and collided with a truck and trailer. BPD said the cyclist suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. They are in "stable but critical condition" as of Friday morning, according to the release. A preliminary investigation revealed that the cyclist lost control of their bike while traveling on the sidewalk near the intersection and entered the road where the crash occurred. Bentonville police said the investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
