Bail Set for Northeast Iowa Woman Accused of Leaving Scene of Accident That Killed Pedestrian

A bail has been set for northeast Iowa woman has been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run accident last month in which a pedestrian died. The suspect also allegedly later tried to report her vehicle as stolen. Shortly before 9:30 PM May 20th, Waterloo police and fire crews responded to the 1000 block of San Marnan Drive after receiving a report of a man lying in the road with injuries. Officers say they found that 32-year-old Joshua Ehr of Waterloo had been hit by a car that left the scene. First responders tried to save Ehr's life, but he was later pronounced dead at a local hospital. A subsequent investigation has identified 53-year-old Jodie Hill of Waterloo as the driver who hit Ehr with her vehicle and then drove away. Waterloo Police arrested Hill at about 1 AM Friday (06.12) morning. According to the criminal complaint, Hill became a suspect the day (05.21) after the fatal incident after Waterloo Police received a report of a silver 2008 Jeep Liberty that was stolen. That report came from the vehicle’s registered owner and Hill, his girlfriend. Investigators allege Hill was involved in the abandonment and/or staging of the vehicle to make it look like it was stolen. Waterloo Police say they spoke with multiple witnesses that claim Hill admitted she was driving at the time of the accident. Data on Hill’s cell phone also allegedly placed her in the vehicle and that she was driving, with location data verified by security footage from several businesses and traffic cameras. Hill is being held on $50,000 cash or surety bond at the Black Hawk County Jail on a charge of knowingly leaving the scene of a crash resulting in death, a Class C felony. She was also charged with making a false report to a public entity and driving while suspended.  Hill is scheduled for a preliminary next Monday (06.22) in Black Hawk County District Court.
