Aurora police chased stolen car for under 60 seconds before crash killed 2 occupants
A police chase of a stolen car in Aurora tragically ended in a fatal accident on Monday at the intersection of East Alameda Avenue and South Peoria Street. The stolen vehicle crashed into a pole, resulting in the deaths of two individuals. Fortunately, no homes or other cars were hit, with only minor damage to a fence reported. The pursuit began in Fort Collins on Saturday as a car theft and concluded in Aurora with a violent collision that claimed two lives. Aurora Police Department Commander Justin Shipley stated that officers were alerted to the stolen sedan at 11:26 a.m. and tracked it down to the intersection mentioned at 11:32 a.m. Following an attempt to stop the driver, a brief chase ensued, culminating in the fatal crash when the driver lost control while attempting a left turn onto Alameda Avenue. Shipley emphasized the danger posed by the suspect's high speed and reckless driving behavior, acknowledging the fortunate lack of harm to others on the road. The Aurora police force had updated their pursuit policy earlier this year, allowing pursuits of stolen vehicles which have resulted in several pursuit incidents since. A routine internal review of the pursuit is planned by the police, who have not yet disclosed the identities of the deceased individuals.
