Allegedly impaired driver blew stop sign, caused serious crash in Madison County
MADISON COUNTY, Ind. — A 35-year-old man is accused of fleeing on foot and attempting to hide from police after allegedly blowing a stop sign and causing a serious crash. According to the Madison County Sheriff's Department, the crash occurred at approximately 1:50 p.m. on Tuesday at the intersection of State Road 38 near County Road 400 East. The crash initially prompted a closure of all lanes due to a woman becoming entrapped in her vehicle. Witness told investigators that a 2012 Jeep Latitude was driving on 400 East and blew through a stop sign, colliding with a 2015 Nissan Ultima. The driver of the Jeep, later identified by police as Allen Neal of Straughn, is accused of taking off on foot after the crash. Police located Neal hiding inside a residence near the intersection where the crash occurred. He was taken into custody and transported to a hospital in Anderson. He is preliminarily charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated, leaving the scene of an accident and residential entry. A 49-year-old woman was driving the Nissan that Neal's Jeep reportedly slammed into. The woman was unresponsive when police arrived on scene and trapped within her damaged vehicle. She was flown to an Indianapolis hospital with internal injuries, but was listed as being in stable condition.
