Alleged drunk driver hits Byron Township firetruck
CUTLERVILLE, Mich. (WOOD) — A firetruck responding to a car crash in the Byron Township-area Saturday night was hit by an alleged drunk driver, Michigan State Police say. Members of the Byron Township Fire Department were driving on southbound US-131 near 76th Street just after 10 p.m. when they were struck by an alleged drunk driver, an MSP spokesperson told News 8. The alleged drunk driver then bounced from the firetruck into another vehicle that also crashed, the Kent County Sheriff's Office said. KCSO, who is investigating the crash, said the fire department vehicle was responding to another crash involving three cars when it was hit. The suspected drunk driver and one other driver were taken to a hospital with injuries. Their current condition is not known. Just two months into the year, this is the second drunk driving incident involving a firetruck in the Grand Rapids-area in 2026. In January, an alleged drunk driver hit a Grand Rapids Fire Department vehicle on Burton Street near Prospect Avenue causing an estimated $100,000 in repairs.
