All lanes closed on I-77 North in Summit County due to 23-vehicle crash: sheriff
GREEN TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WJW) -- There's a major traffic backup in Summit County on Interstate 77 North, due to a significant crash Tuesday afternoon. The Ohio Department of Transportation announced that all lanes on I-77 North are closed near Arlington Road. The left shoulder is also blocked on I-77 South in that area. The crash happened just after noon, according to the Summit County Sheriff's Office. The backup appears to go all the way to the Akron-Canton Airport. The Summit County Sheriff's Office confirmed the crash involves 23 vehicles. Chief Bill Holland told FOX 8 News no serious injuries had been reported as of 1 p.m. on Tuesday. One vehicle caught fire, however, and was extinguished. A crash squad is at the scene, Holland said. The interstate is expected to be closed down for some time. Drivers are advised to avoid the area. Motorists are being diverted onto state Route 241. Authorities have not yet determined what caused the crash.
