1 dead in crash on U.S. 40 in Franklin County
One person is dead after a crash shut down U.S. 40 at Alton Darby Creek Road in Prairie Township on Tuesday morning. Investigators say a red 2025 Ford Mustang was traveling westbound on U.S. 40 approaching Alton Darby Creek Road when a 2025 white Kenworth FedEx semi tractor-trailer, traveling eastbound on U.S. 40, turned onto Alton Darby Creek Road in front of the Mustang. The Mustang struck the Kenworth. The Mustang came to rest facing westbound in a ditch on the northwest corner of the intersection. The Kenworth stopped in the intersection, blocking all eastbound and westbound lanes. The driver of the Kenworth was rushed to Grant Hospital. The driver of the Mustang was pronounced dead at the scene. The crash remains under investigation.
