Accident involving Pender County school bus on Highway 53
This morning, a Pender County school bus was in a collision on Highway 53 in the Maple Hill area. The district verified that bus 243, with 23 students and one driver, was involved. Fortunately, all occupants were taken to Pender Memorial Hospital for assessment, and there were no significant injuries. Due to the incident, a section of Highway 53 between Shaw Highway and N.C. Highway 50 was temporarily closed. Parents were advised to collect their children from the hospital post-assessment. The State Highway Patrol is in charge of the investigation, and Pender County Schools will keep families informed as more details emerge.
