Accident closes I-35 near Ottawa after 2 trucks collide

Overnight, a collision between two semis on I-35 SB near Ottawa, Kansas led to the temporary closure of both directions of the highway. The Kansas Highway Patrol reported that a 2021 Cascadi freightliner veered off the road, struck the center guardrail, and stalled in the middle of the roadway near the U 59 interchange south of Ottawa. Subsequently, a 2019 Freightliner also traveling SB collided with the first semi, resulting in one of the semis hanging off the overpass and the other overturned, causing a load of meat to spill onto the road. While both lanes of I-35 were initially closed, the NB lanes have since been re-opened before 5:30 a.m. SB I-35 will remain closed temporarily as cleanup and investigation are underway. Fortunately, only minor injuries were reported to the second semi driver.
