7-year-old to be taken off life support after Moulton crash that killed twin, sibling and mother

A 7-year-old girl critically injured in a crash that killed her mother and siblings will be removed from life support, her stepmother said Wednesday.The family says her organs will be donated, and the crash remains under investigation.Brynleigh's legacy In a Facebook post, the stepmother said Brynleigh had “fought so incredibly hard,” but that the damage to her brain was too severe. She said the machines were “literally doing everything at this point” and that the family could not keep her alive “just for us to have her here on Earth with us.”Brynleigh’s legacy will live on through organ donation, which is expected to help save other lives."This pain is indescribable," the stepmother said in a different post. "We can only be comforted by the fact that our sweet girls are back together and made whole again in the arms of our Lord. The twins were inseparable, and I know Bryleigh Grace is impatiently waiting on her other half to join her. I kind of wish I could see that reunion. I can only imagine. What a day, glorious day, that must be. "What happened in the crashThe Lawrence County coroner told WAFF, our news partner, that a vehicle driven by Ashley Hagood, 33, was struck on the side by a truck near Highway 157 and Highway 24 in Moulton. Hagood and her four children were in the vehicle: Bryant Ballew, 13; twins Bryleigh and Brynleigh Pledger, 7; and Bentley Pledger, 10.Ballew died at the scene. Hagood was taken to a hospital, where she later died. According to WAFF, Bentley was taken off a ventilator Sunday afternoon.The crash remains under investigation.Community support growsMoulton Mayor Ryan Jolly urged the community to keep the family and first responders in their prayers.“I want to ask you for prayers for the families of those involved, but also prayers for our first responders who valiantly raced to an emergency scene, not knowing what they were going to encounter when they got there,” Jolly said. “I would just ask our community to come together.
