68-year-old woman dies in two-vehicle crash in Fond du Lac County: Sheriff’s Office

FOND DU LAC COUNTY, Wis. (WFRV) - The Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Office responded to a two-vehicle crash in the Town of Auburn earlier on Sunday. Deputies from the sheriff's office, along with personnel form Campbellsport Fire Department and Campbellsport Ambulance, responded to the intersection of County Highway V and Mill Pond Road after receiving a 911 call around 8:00 a.m. Sunday morning. The caller, a passenger in one of the involved vehicles, reported that another vehicle had pulled into their path and now the driver of their vehicle was trapped with a head injury. Due to the number of parties involved, additional assistance was requested from City of Fond du Lac Ambulance and West Bend Ambulance. Preliminary investigation indicates that a vehicle traveling south on Mill Pond Road failed to yield the right-of-way to a vehicle traveling north on County Highway V, resulting in a collision. The driver of the southbound vehicle, a 21-year-old Campbellsport man, sustained minor injuries and was transported via ambulance to SSM Health St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac. His passenger, a 20-year-old man from Kewaskum, was treated for minor injuries and released at the scene. The driver of the northbound vehicle, a 68-year-old Kewaskum woman, sustained serious injuries was transported via ambulance to SSM Health St. Agnes. While waiting to transfer to ThedaStar Medical Transport, she passed away at the hospital. Her passenger, a 16-year-old female from Kewaskum, sustained minor injuries and was transported to SSM Health St. Agnes for treatment. The Fond du Lac Sheriff's Office believes alcohol to be a contributing factor in the crash. The 21-year-old driver was arrested on suspicion of homicide by intoxicated use of a motor vehicle and was booked into the Fond du Lac County Jail. The crash remains under investigation, and no further details were released. WFRV will continue to update this story as more information becomes available.
