6 people transported to hospital after crash sends car into a Clairemont home
SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- San Diego Fire and Rescue transported six people to the hospital Thursday morning following a two-car crash at 11 a.m. that sent one vehicle into a Clairemont home. “We received a call of a traffic accident this morning," said Jose Ysea, the public information officer for San Diego Fire and Rescue. Surveillance video shows these two cars slamming into each other at the intersection of Diane Avenue and Chateau Drive. “They immediately began rescue efforts. Apparently, there were still people in the vehicles,” Ysea said. Neighbors rushed to the home to assist with the rescue, and when San Diego Fire and Rescue arrived, they transported five adults and one child to the hospital. “Two were transported with major injuries, and the other four minor,” Ysea said. One of the cars crashed through the white fence of a home, destroying the outdoor patio area and smashing through the walls of the property with the residents inside. “According to initial reports, both vehicles were coming southbound on Diane, so that’ll be what they’re looking at is how they happened to collide with each other,” he said. Neighbors we spoke to off-camera say crashes like this have happened multiple times at this intersection when drivers speed past the stop sign. The neighbor who shared the security camera footage of the crash worries that without more safety measures in place, the next crash could be worse. “As you can see, Diane [Avenue] here is a downhill road that feeds into Chateau, so I’m sure speed and other factors will be evaluated," he said. The San Diego Police Department will continue investigating what led up to this crash. At this point, law enforcement could not confirm if speed was a factor in the collision.
