4 killed in Saturday morning crash in Westmoreland County

Four people were killed Saturday in a crash in Westmoreland County, according to Pennsylvania State Police. Police said the crash happened around 3:30 a.m. on Derr Road in Sewickley Township when the vehicle hit a tree and caught fire. Saturday, the community created a large memorial on the tree. They laid flowers, candles, photos and other various items. They were really kindhearted. They were just amazing people. They didn't deserve this at all," said Aubree Paul, a friend of the victims. The coroner is still officially confirming the identities of the victims, but the schools superintendent and friends have said they were part of the greater Yough High School community. "It is with deep sadness that we share information regarding the tragic car accident that occurred on March 21, 2026, involving 4 high school students losing their lives," Yough School District Superintendent Anthony DeMaro said in an updated statement Sunday. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the families, friends, and all those impacted by this heartbreaking loss. As a school community, we mourn together and extend our deepest condolences." "It's kind of a small community. So, like, everyone knows each other," said Madison Husar.The four lives touched many throughout the community. "Super funny, energetic kid, really good wrestler. I mean, I was on a lot of teams with him. Middle school, dual teams and just. Yeah, he's just a great kid," Cash Mitchell said."She was amazing. She was funny. She was always happy, always put a smile on my face," Paul said. The community is determined to remain strong together."I don't think the crash defined who these teenagers were. They were so much more than this crash," said Miley Kuester.DeMaro said after careful consideration, school will be in session on Monday, March 23, 2026. He said, "being together will allow us to provide care, connection, and support during this difficult time."Troopers said that the process of identifying the victims was ongoing and that updates are expected to come early next week.
