3 killed in single-engine plane crash in Bowie, officials say
BOWIE, Md. (DC News Now) -- Three people are dead Sunday morning after a single-engine plane crash in Bowie, according to officials. Details are limited; however, officials said the crash happened in a wooded residential area not far from Annapolis Road and Superior Lane, and left three adults dead. In a press conference Sunday morning, officials said the plane was coming from Ocean City, New Jersey, and was possibly heading to the Montgomery County Airpark on a training flight. Maryland State Police said an iPhone crash alert notified Prince George's County authorities of the incident just minutes before midnight, indicating a crash in the area of Route 50 and 301. As investigators worked to process the scene Sunday morning, debris from the aircraft could be seen laying in a wooded area near neighborhood homes. Rabbi Mushky Baron of the Chabad of Bowie told DC News Now's Hayley Milon that the three victims were young Jewish men, although officials have not released their names or ages. The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration are leading the investigation. This is a developing story and will be updated.
