3 boys arrested in Barberton fatal shooting, crash
BARBERTON, Ohio (WJW) -- Barberton police said they have arrested three juveniles in the murder of a 20-year-old man, who was found shot dead in a crashed car on Thursday night, June 18. Police responded at 10 p.m. on Thursday to a report of a crash near South Van Buren and Harold avenues, according to a previous news release. They found a vehicle that had crashed into a utility pole. One man inside the vehicle appeared to have suffered injuries from the crash as well as a gunshot and was declared dead at the scene, according to the release. The Summit County Medical Examiner's Office later identified him as a 20-year-old Benjamin Hutchison, of Akron. The medical examiner ruled his death a homicide, caused by a gunshot wound to the torso. Two others who were injured were transported to a hospital for treatment. After seeking tips on the suspects, city police detectives and SWAT officers on Saturday, June 20, executed search and arrest warrants at two locations in Barberton, during which they arrested two 15-year-old boys from Barberton, according to a Monday, June 22, news release. Detectives and members of the U.S. Marshals' Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force then on Monday morning arrested a third suspect, a 16-year-old boy, in Akron. All three were transported to the Summit County Juvenile Detention Center on murder charges, according to the release.
