22-year-old arrested after mother, son killed in Fresno canal crash, police say
FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - A 22-year-old man has been arrested after a deadly crash into a Fresno canal that claimed the lives of a mother and her son, officers say. Police say the mother and her son were at McKinley Avenue and Highway 41 at around 2 a.m. when a crash sent their Dodge SUV into the canal. A second vehicle, a Honda SUV, was left abandoned on the road. The crash claimed the lives of 41-year-old Martha Hernandez and her 9-year-old son, Adrian Hernandez, both of Fresno. According to the Fresno Police Department, 22-year-old Timothy Seth Chavez turned himself in at the Fresno County Jail later that same day. Investigators determined that Chavez was the person responsible for the double-fatal crash. According to the Fresno Police Department, 22-year-old Timothy Seth Chavez was later medically cleared at Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno before he was booked into the Fresno County Jail. Officers say Chavez was booked on two counts of gross vehicular manslaughter, two counts of felony hit and run, driving on a suspended license, and driving without insurance.
