2 seriously injured in crash on Lafayette Street in south Fort Wayne

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Traffic was slowed for hours Tuesday morning along a portion of Lafayette Street in south Fort Wayne following a crash that left the two drivers injured. The collision happened around 8 a.m. at the intersection with East Sherwood Terrace. Dispatch confirmed all the northbound lanes of Lafayette were initially shut down, and just one southbound lane was open. Sherwood Terrace was shut down in both directions near the scene. Dispatch also confirmed that of the two people hurt, one had serious injuries and the other was initially deemed to be in critical condition. The Fort Wayne Police Department said in a noon update the driver listed in critical condition was stable and his injuries were not life-threatening. The other driver's injuries were less severe, described by police as "moderate." By 11 a.m., traffic on Lafayette Street appeared to be flowing normally. The collision appeared to involve an SUV and a Camaro. It's unclear if anyone else was involved besides the two who were injured. The FWPD, Fort Wayne Fire Department and Three Rivers Ambulance Authority responded.
