2 dead, I-24W blocked following crash near Antioch Pike
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) -- Crews shut down a stretch of Interstate 24 in Nashville overnight after an attempt to flee a traffic stop turned into a deadly crash, officials said. According to the Tennessee Department of Transportation, the single-vehicle crash was reported just after 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 8 near mile marker 54.6 on I-24 West. Tennessee Highway Patrol told News 2 the vehicle involved in the incident was "actively evading from a THP attempted traffic stop" when the crash occurred. Authorities confirmed the crash resulted in two deaths. However, the names of the people involved will not be released until next of kin is notified. THP urged motorists to use caution in the area while its Critical Incident Response Team processed the scene during the investigation. At 11:45 p.m., the TDOT online traffic map showed all westbound lanes closed on I-24 from mile marker 56 (east of the Harding Place exit) until about mile marker 53.7 (the Briley Parkway exit). The closures lasted approximately 8 hours overnight, but the interstate has since reopened. No additional details have been released about this deadly crash.
