2 CPD officers, infant among 4 hospitalized following rollover South Side crash

CHICAGO (WGN) - Two Chicago police officers and an infant were among four people injured in a rollover crash Tuesday morning on the city’s South Side. Police said the crash happened just after 11:15 a.m. in the 0-100 block of West 87th Street near the Chatham and Auburn Gresham neighborhoods. A marked CPD vehicle was traveling northbound on State Street when it crashed into a Volkswagen SUV traveling eastbound on 87th Street, causing the Volkswagen to roll over. A 26-year-old woman was driving the Volkswagen with a 9-month-old girl inside, according to investigators. "It was a loud noise and I felt sickened by it, because it looked bad," Kimberly Walker, who works nearby, said. Police said the two officers inside the CPD vehicle were taken to an area hospital in good condition for observation; the 26-year-old woman was taken to University of Chicago Hospital in good condition for observation and the 9-month-old girl was taken to Comer Children's Hospital in good condition for observations. Walker added the police vehicle had its sirens on and it looked like it was responding to a call when the crash happened. No other injuries were reported and no other information was released.
