19-year-old crashes into Martha’s Dandee Creme sign

QUEENSBURY, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- A 19-year-old man has been arrested after crashing into the Martha's Dandee Creme sign on Route 9 Friday night. According to the Warren County Sheriff's Office, Caleb Deming was reportedly fleeing from deputies when he crashed. Deputies said around 10:44 p.m., they responded to Stewart's Shops at 1002 State Route 9 for reports of a man hitting a female in the face. Deputies said while responding, the man, later identified as Deming, reportedly left the scene, heading north on Roue 9 in a pickup truck before crashing at the ice cream stand. Deming reportedly "plowed" into the neon ice cream cone sign, a flower bed, a light pole and a water fountain and bench, minutes after the business closed to customers. According to Martha's, the main sign with the rooster statue was not damaged. "This was extremely disturbing as 45 minutes before we were very busy and just minutes before employees were cleaning up the parking lot," the business stated. "We are beyond grateful that no one was hurt, we will repair and rebuild." According to deputies, when crews arrived to Martha's, Deming was taken into custody and showed no signs of impairment. He was subsequently charged with third-degree assault and fourth-degree criminal mischief, both misdemeanor offenses. Deming was arraigned in Warren County CAP Court and was later released. He is expected to appear in Queenbury Town Court on July 13 at 9 a.m. for further proceedings.
