17-year-old motorcyclist killed in Lycoming County crash on Route 287
A 17-year-old motorcyclist was killed Saturday afternoon in a single-vehicle crash in Lycoming County, according to Pennsylvania State Police. The crash happened around 5:08 p.m. on State Route 287, north of the intersection with State Route 284 in Pine Township. State police said the teenager was riding a 2016 Honda CBR500F southbound on Route 287 when, for unknown reasons, the motorcycle left the roadway to the right. Investigators said the motorcycle struck a ditch and a rugged embankment before continuing south along the ditch. The rider was thrown from the motorcycle, which continued traveling before coming to rest off the west side of the roadway. Police said the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash but suffered traumatic injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators said there were no apparent roadway defects, the pavement was dry and no environmental factors were identified as contributing to the crash. No charges have been filed.
