16-year-old killed, second teen injured in two-vehicle crash in Shelby County
A 16-year-old from Alabaster was killed and three others, including a 14-year-old, were injured in a two-vehicle crash Sunday afternoon in Shelby County, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) The Shelby County Coroner's Office identified the 16-year-old as William James Clowdus. ALEA said the crash happened shortly after 2:00 p.m. along Alabama 119 near the 26 mile-marker, about two miles south of Hoover. Authorities said Clowdus was driving a 2013 Honda Civic when the vehicle was struck by an SUV. Following the initial impact, the Civic left the roadway and collided with a fence and a greenhouse. Officials said Clowdus was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and was ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The 14-year-old passenger was taken to an area hospital for treatment. ALEA said the driver of the SUV and one passenger in that vehicle were also injured and taken to UAB Hospital for treatment. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency said its Highway Patrol Division is continuing to investigate the crash. No additional information has been released at this time.
