WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (WGHP) — A 16-year-old girl has been identified as the juvenile who was killed in a single-vehicle crash on Saturday morning, according to the Winston-Salem Police Department. At around 1:48 a.m. on Saturday, officers came to the 5700 block of Indiana Avenue after getting a report of a crash. At the scene, police found two juveniles who were injured as a result of the crash. Investigators say that a juvenile was driving the 2005 Honda Accord involved in the crash and that 16-year-old Danian Piper was a passenger in the vehicle. The Honda was going west on Indiana Avenue toward Bethabara Road when it lost control and went off the road, crashing into a bridge abutment before coming to a stop in the middle of the road. Police say that it is not known what caused the vehicle to lose control at this time. Piper was pronounced dead at the scene and the juvenile driver was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Police say the driver's condition has improved in the days since and their injuries are not considered to be life-threatening. No charges have been filed at this time and the crash is still being investigated by the WSPD's Traffic Enforcement Unit. There is no further information available at this time.
