11-year-old boy seriously injured, horse killed after car crashes into buggy

BEAVERTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WKRC) — An 11-year-old Amish boy was hurt and a horse was killed after a car struck their buggy. The Gladwin County Sheriff's Office in Michigan said the boy was operating the horse-drawn buggy in rural Beaverton Township Wednesday morning when the crash happened. He was exiting a driveway onto a road when the carriage was hit by a 79-year-old woman driving a Buick Enclave. Investigators believe vegetation at the end of the driveway blocked the child's view of the road and he didn't see the car coming as he pulled out in front of it. Photos of the crash show the buggy totaled and missing wheels and the Buick's front end smashed in. The boy suffered serious injuries and was transported to a hospital in Midland, about 30 miles from the crash. The Buick driver was taken to a hospital in nearby Gladwin for treatment for minor injuries. The horse did not survive the crash, said the sheriff's office.
